I wanted to create something fun that represented my tiny hometown to the rest of the world, so I created a Snapchat geofilter using Adobe Illustrator and pencil and paper to initially brainstorm ideas. I researched what was required to submit a geofilter to Snapchat such as file size, file type, and description about why I made it for the Snapchat community. I also had to create a geofence to map out the perimeters where I thought the geofilter should be located in. While using google maps with the Snapchat software, I drew the applicable area where I wanted the filter to be available. McCartyville is a family community where everyone feels welcome and well-known for its St. Patrick’s day celebrations.
After posting it on April 21st, 2016 to Snapchat, I heard back from them on May 18th, 2016 when they approved my submission to Snapchat. Before I knew it, my friends, family, and neighbors were using it. This is a picture that was posted to Facebook using the filter I created for Snapchat.
